The downfall of Western Civilization...

Or the men of "Generation X" or whatever you feel like calling it at least.

Just a few things that I feel are having a negative effect on our nation and the young men that are growing up in it. While none of these are the main downfall they are all things that you should think about.

Automatic doors. Growing up one of the main things I was taught and continue to incorporate into my day to day life is that a woman shouldn't ever open a door for herself. Wether it is your mother, sister, wife or some random woman you have never met, a gentleman always opens the door for them. With automatic doors the chances of holding a door are cut drasticly. Other then handicapping the "gentlmaness" of todays youth, these doors also are just another sign of the lazyness of the American people.

Television, not all television, just family shows. Gone are the "Leave it to Beaver" days and now our channels are filled up with "Kings of Queens" and "The Simpsons" shows that portray the male as a bumbling idiot who is incapable of doing anything but making a complete mess out of anything they put their hands on. In a country where according to http://http://family.jrank.org/pages/1574/Single-Parent-Families-Demographic-Trends.html
34% of families are single parent households this is what our male children are seeing as the normal male role in a family. Gone is the respect, love , and admiration that Ward Beaver recieved. The respect that is a crucial part of a strong household.

TV is in no way the only advocate of broken families in this day. As difficult as it is to say, I feel that our churches and other religious clubs are falling very short in the field of raising strong respectable, hardworking men. Growing up I never heard anyone talk about what it takes to be a young adult in this day and age. There are many views and points that God gives us in the Bible on how to raise a child in a fallen world. Where are the classes on being an honest, virtuous, honest teenager. Or for that matter where are the classes on how to become the head of your household, the spiritual leader that every man is commanded to be in Ephesians 5:21-23, where it says husbands love your wifes like Christ loved the church and be willing to give up your body for it. Where are the classes that show us how to do that. This is not something that comes natural to men. How are we suppose to lead an entire household when we arent being thought how to find and lead ourselves in a world that is becoming more and more anti-family.

Is this what you want in your President?

1.He openly admits to smoking marijuana and cocaine
2.He voted for partial birth abortions and voted no to notifying parents when minors get out-of-state abortions.
3. In 2001 he questioned the harsh penalties for drug dealing as being too severe.
4. Supports granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
5. Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants.
6. Voted with the Democratic Party 96% of the time.
7. He voted No to repealing the Alternative Minuimum Tax, which is a tax hike on middle income tax brackets.
8. Voted yes on providing illegal immigrants with Social Security.
9.Obama on teen mothers and abortions ,"But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby."

Just a few things to think about before you go out to vote on Nov.4th

My one true love.
The reason I strive to be a great husband

Empathy

People struggle with all kinds of addictions and vices, some have drugs, alcohol, pornography. Me, I have empathy. or better yet the complete and total lack thereof. When someone (my wife) comes to me with a problem or situation I find it difficult if not impossible to just sit down, shut up and listen to her. So what is empathy, and how do i get it?

Empathy- noun-
the intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another.

This for me is one of the hardest aspects of marriage, or any relationship, that i can find. How do you put your own thoughts and feelings on any particular subject aside and feel full compassion for them. The Bible says:
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
The New King James Version. Nashville : Thomas Nelson, 1982, S. 2 Co 1:3-4

By that verse alone we have to be fully empathetic for those who are suffering through any kind of hardship. As compassionate and understanding as God is to us when we go to Him with our problems and issues. How do you do that though?

The main thing that i need to understand is that not everyone needs me to solve their problems. Just because a situation that I know how to solve, or atleast I think that I know how to solve, is presented to me doesn't mean that I have to, or even have the right to try and solve it.

So to me empathy is an entire process, I need to shut the problem solving portion of my mind down and jut listen, with unadultered, undivided attetention to the problems of those around me. Starting in my own home but reaching much much further.

I know this doesn't really teach how to have empathy as I've hinted to numerous times, but I guess I dont have all the answers. Anyone out there that has all the answers feel free to give me the insight that is needed to have complete and total empathy. The kind of empathy that only God has for someone.

Day 22

Being a husband is easy; just get married
Being a good husband; that takes effort

Guess i'll start this from the very beginning. This is my first blog ever and i've only been married for 22 days(hence the title). I've been reading, watching, surfing and discussing what it means to be a good husband and the quote above is the most straight forward way i can think to put it. You need to put your heart and soul into your marriage, your wife must come before you in everything that you do.

A good husband should have a pool of pleasure they can draw from everytime they see their wife smile. When you hold the door for her, give her your coat when its cold, or just let her pick the movie for the night you should be able to draw joy from her happiness. As it says in Genesis 2:24 For this a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. One flesh means that whatever pleases her should also provide you with bliss. On the other side of this quote it also means that when you bring shame or sin into your own life then you are bringing it into your wifes life as well. As a husband your love for your wife should be so abundant that you wouldn't ever want to bring shame or pain into her life, the easiest way to to do this is to keep yourself ( and her by affilliation) pure and wholesome.

To me it seems that the order of things should be
J= Jesus
O=others(wife)
Y=yourself
